The Maloney Girls Volleyball team continues to make noise early in the season, and this time, they took down one of the state’s top ranked teams.
The Spartans, now 6-and-1, battled the previously unbeaten Darien Blue Wave in a five-set thriller, coming away with a 3-to-2 victory.
Maloney took the opening set 25-22, but Darien answered by taking the next two, 25-23 and 25-22. Facing a one-set deficit, the Spartans responded in a big way, taking the fourth set 25-19 and forcing a deciding fifth set.
In the fifth, Maloney held on for a 15-13 victory to complete the comeback and earn the five-set win.
Maryam Machmech led the Spartans with 14 kills and 2 blocks, while Greta Koscuk powered the offense with 20 kills and added 10 digs.
Tessa Holmes continued to run the offense, finishing with an impressive 35 assists. Gabriella Alston added 7 kills, while Jenna Feitel contributed 6 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces.
And the Spartans don’t have much time to celebrate.
Tonight, Maloney is back home, taking on Platt at 6:00 p.m.
