Semester Course – ½ credit

Course Description
In Computer Applications I, students will be introduced to integrated software Microsoft® Word 2007: Comprehensive. This software is a complete survey of the word processing application, Microsoft Word. You will be introduced to Word and the new Office 2007 Ribbon interface. Topics introduced include working with text, using proofreading tools, creating bulleted and numbered lists, working with tables, clip art, picture editing, footnotes and endnotes, templates, and much more.
The second part of this semester course will be an introduction to Microsoft® PowerPoint 2007: Comprehensive, presentation software. You will be introduced to adding, deleting and rearranging slides, formatting text, creating bulleted lists and tables, applying animation, sound and multimedia and much more.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course you will be able to:
 Create, edit, and format documents
 Create, sort, and edit tables
 Use section and column breaks, and headers and footers
 Add, delete, and rearrange slides
 Create, sort and format tables
 Apply animation, sound and multimedia to a PowerPoint presentation
 And much more!

Course Text & Materials
The textbooks for this course are:
Microsoft® Word 2007: Comprehensive
Microsoft® PowerPoint 2007: Comprehensive
Students will be provided with a folder. This folder should be kept in class and should be maintained in an orderly manner.

Work Standards
 Please arrive on time for each class meeting. Tardiness will result in a ten (10) minute after school detention. You have three (3) days to make up your detention. Failure to serve a detention within the allotted time will result in a deduction of five (5) points from your class participation grade.
 Please notify me if you are going to be absent or if you were absent with a legitimate reason.
 All make up work should be turned in within five (5) school days. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to see me for missed assignments before or after school.
 Class “cuts” will result in a grade of “0” for any missed work/tests. Work missed due to a “cut” may not be made up. You will be assigned a 30 minute detention.
 Respect the computer lab all materials in it. Respect your fellow classmates and your teacher. Please read and sign the Computer Lab Rules and Regulations.
 Any and all electronic devices are prohibited unless authorized by the teacher. All devices will be confiscated and turned over to the office.
 Please ask for permission prior to using a flash drive/memory stick.

When you work at the computer, don’t struggle with a task that is not working for more than 2 minutes before you ask for help.
